‘Nando’ weakens, Signal No. 1 raised in various areas


Maring

“Nando” has weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) and merged with Tropical Storm (TS) Maring, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.

“Maring” is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains in Eastern Visayas and Catanduanes as it moves northward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph). It was located 665 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised in the following Catanduanes, Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Northeastern portion of Isabela (Santa Maria, Cabagan, Tumauini, San Pablo, Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan, llagan City, San Mariano) in Luzon;

Eastern Samar, eastern portion of Northern Samar (San Roque, Pambujan, Las Navas, Catubig, Laoang, Mapanas, Lapinig, Gamay, Palapag, Mondragon, Silvino Lobos) and Eastern portion of Samar (Matuguinao, San Jose de Buan, Hinabangan, Paranas) in Visayas and Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte in Mindanao.

“Under these conditions, isolated to scattered flash floods and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps,” Pagasa warned.

It warned those living in areas highly susceptible to landslides to follow evacuation instructions from local officials.

“Maring” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of responsibility on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Pagasa said that the southwesterlies were enhanced by “Maring” will bring moderate to heavy rains in Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Western Visayas.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have fairly good weather.
