Billy James for the exploited construction workers

Posted on October 16, 2021 by Ingming Aberia, ingmingaberia.com

As of press time, more than 30 local celebrities from showbiz have filed their Certificate of Candidacy for local and national posts for the coming 2022 election.

Topping the list for the national post is Mayor Isko Moreno for president followed by aspirants for the senatorial candidates namely Herbert Bautista, Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada,Manuel Monsor del Rosario 3rd, and Raffy Tulfo.

For the congressional post the list include Richard Yap, Anjo Yllana, Richard Gomez, Arjo Atayde, Angelica Jones; and for party-list represetantives we have Karla Estrada, Nora Aunor, and Tom Rod Rodriguez running under the banner Anak Maharlikang Pilipino (AMP) Party-List.

Tom Rodriguez has listed his bosom friend-actor Billy James as nominee number two in the priority of said party-list.

Billy James (right) with Senator Bong Go

Of all the Party-List aspirants, it is Billy James who is not as popular in the public eye as compared to say, Nora Aunor, Richard Gomez, or even Arjo Atayde, although in the inner circle of showbiz he is well-known even among some veteran members of the movie press.

This is confirmed by his press agent Dominic Rea, seasoned member of the Philippine Movie Press Club who recently gathered his press friends for an intimate merienda cena with Billy James. By the way, Dominic is also the press agent of Karla Estrada.

To the uninformed, Billy James hails from Dumaguete city, province of Negros Oriental, well-known among others, for the resonating names of Edith Tiempo, and director Eddie Romero, National Artist for Literature and Film, respectively.

Billy likes to call himself an indigene (gamely referencing the vanishing native Aetas of Negros), although his well-built assets, fair complexion, command of English betray it all as he is a dyed-in-the wool sports buff like Tom and has even modeled for Vicky Belo.

Billy’s biggest break in showbiz is through Coco Martin’s “Ang Probinsyano” where he played a swashbuckling role opposite Judy Ann Santos. He hopes to stage a comeback as he was not killed off in said series. (Coco Martin, are you listening?)

For his aspiration on hand as AMP’s second nominee, Billy is getting the support of showbiz friends from Dumaguete the likes of Beauty Gonzales, and Nadia Montenegro who he calls his long time “nanay-nanayan” (godmother) of showbiz when he was over a decade ago scraping the pot’s bottom; and as a struggling wannabe of showbiz together with Tom Rodriquez, from Samar, whom he shares affinity as a fellow Visayan.

Up from virtual anonymity, Billy and Tom since the onslaught of the pandemic were proactively involved in feeding programs and extending a helping hand to the frontliners sans fanfare.

This with some colleagues of showbiz who are now all-out to support AMP’s advocacy like Robin Padilla, Martin Escudero, April ‘Congrats’ Gustilo, Dennis Padilla, Arnell Ignacio, Wendell Ramos, Bela Padilla, Mocha Uson, Byron ‘Banat Bay’ Cristobal, Njel de Mesa, and fellow Cebuano singer-composer-actor Zyruz Imperial.

You might also add Dennis Trillo whose Chinese-Filipino parents are all from Dumaguete city.

Highly-endorsed by the party of Sen. Bong Go, AMP according to Billy and Tom will encourage productive collaborations with DOLE, POEA, and OWWA and to the Global Pinoy Construction Experts.

AMP represents the hundreds of thousands marginalized, under-utilized, okay “exploited,” construction workers throughout the country and yes, counting for more.

The party-list will also support the government in building sustainable communities and a strong institution for a brighter future for the Filipino people. As the cliche goes, “hopes spring eternal” for those whose heart and soul are for the underprivileged and exploited.

Indie actor Jomari Angeles portrays the role of Mario, the introvert guy in the BL movie ‘Limited Edition.’

Indie actor Jomari Angeles is very happy and excited to play the lead role in the BL movie “Limited Edition” produced by Bragais TV under the direction of Jill Singson Urdaneta.

“It’s my first time to play lead in a project and I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. This is a dream come true,” said Jomari who had long been doing supporting roles, especially in the indie scene.

He auditioned for the role of Mario, the introvert guy in the BL movie, and was told the same night that he got the part.

Prior to doing Limited Edition, he did a cameo role in the Carlo Obispo BL film “Better Days” and was in the second season of “Ben x Jim” film directed by Easy Ferrer.

“It is challenging to play a guy who falls in love with another guy but I welcome the challenge. This is one role that I’ve wanted to portray especially after I saw the movie ‘Call Me By Your Name,'” said Jomari.

He describes his character Mario, an introvert guy who is innocent about love. He fell in love at first sight of Jethro (played by Andrew Gan) but because of the situations and decisions that he made caused conflict.

Jomari says he can relate to the situation and experience of Mario since he is also an introvert in real life.

“Many don’t believe that I am an introvert but once you get to meet me in person, I am really quiet and reserved,” he shared.

“I was challenged by role because I need to show that I am really in love with Jethro. As an actor, I always try to be truthful in every scene that I do.”

This is the also first time that Jomari and Andrew worked together on a film and they didn’t have enough time to bond together. But he appreciated Andrew’s gesture and the trust he gave the production team that he will be taken cared of.

Jomari added that he is willing to do another BL movie even if it has a daring story and he has to portray a daring role as long as he believes in the story and the production team.

He was in the Brillante Mendoza film “Ma’ Rosa” where he played the youngest son of Jaclyn Jose and Julio Diaz. He also played the best friend of Christian Bables in Chito Rono’s “Signal Rock.”

His performance as the young Eddie Garcia in the Dan Villegas film “Hintayan ng Langit” won for him the best supporting award at the Urduja Film Festival.

Jomari is also part of the post team of Limited Edition as Associate Producer, with co-star Donna Cariaga as Creative Producer.

While he has yet to land a juicy role in a teleserye, the indie actor is hopeful that if Limited Edition becomes a major success, the universe will finally make things happen and grant him that opportunity.

Limited Edition streams at the Bragais TV Channel on You Tube every Saturday at 8 p.m.

Marco Gallo, Aubrey Caraan take on their most challenging roles yet

Posted on October 2, 2021 by Ingming Aberia, ingmingaberia.com

Director Darryl Yap did not hesitate to reveal that his new movie — “Ang Manananggal Na Nahahati Ang Puso” — was originally intended for Viva’s erstwhile top love team, James Reid and Nadine Lustre, or JaDine. Nevertheless, he was confident to introduce the fresh pair of actors that stepped into the roles, namely newcomers Marco Gallo and Aubrey Caraan, and guaranteed their acting could rival, if not exceed, what JaDine could have given the project.

Ang Manananggal Na Nahahati Ang Puso begins streaming today on Vivmax. Its story revolves around a college student named Giuseppe (Gallo), who goes to a small barrio for thesis research on the mythical Filipino creature, aswang. While there, he meets the eccentric barrio girl Giniper (Caraan), who offers to help Giuseppe with his research.

With Giniper’s help, Giuseppe will learn more than the mythical creatures of the barrio, but he is also in for enchanting encounters with the small-town folk.

This movie was among the first two films Yap had with him when he first signed up with Viva Communications. Following the success of his first directorial job, “Jowable” in 2019, this supposed JaDine-starrer was meant to be next on his list.

“As an audience [before becoming a director], I always had this fixation with the biggest stars. So if you’re going to ask me when it comes to acting and delivery, Nadine is very sincere, and James is very raw. But if you give Aubrey and Marco a chance today, napakagaling po nila sa pelikula,” Yap guaranteed in a virtual interview.

Certain many people will always think of Gallo — a former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate — and Caraan — a former Pop Girls member—as second choices or substitutes for the movie, Yap maintains he has the perfect leads for the project.

“Dahil nga ang dalawang ito ay matagal nang nauuhaw sa atensyon at pagkakataon na maipakita kung ano talaga sila bilang artista, unang pa lang, drone shot pa lang, ay binigay na nila lahat.”

He continued, “I did question why this was originally made [for JaDine], yun pala nakatadhana ang pelikula para sa dalawang ito. Napaka husay nina Aubrey and Marco dito.”

Gallo and Caraan, who were present at the Zoom interview were rendered speechless by the director. For not only did Viva’s director du jour vouch for their acting, but he likewise gave his all in guiding them through this valuable opportunity.

“Super thankful to direk dahil sobrang patient niya po sa akin. May mga ekesena na nahirapan ako but inalalayan niya po ako sa bawat isa,” Caraan attested.

“I started to like my job better when I started working with Direk. I was always seen before from a kilig perspective [but] I wanted to expand on my craft, and with this movie, I had the chance to give much more depth to my character,” Gallo said.

Finally, to put any remaining doubts on the pair’s performance to rest, Yap ended the interview with a solid and categorical statement.

“This could have been a very beautiful movie with Nadine and James, but I think landing Aubrey and Marco, the movie is more than beautiful today. The movie is truthful and it’s truly an experience of artistry.”

Joining Gallo and Caraan in the movie are Beks Batallion’s Chad Kinis, Lassy Marquez and MC Calaquian, Teresa Loyzaga, Gina Pareño and Johnny Revilla.

The Vivamax app is available for download via Google Play, App Store, and Huawei AppGallery, and accessible via web.vivamax.net.
