As of press time, more than 30 local celebrities from showbiz have filed their Certificate of Candidacy for local and national posts for the coming 2022 election.
Topping the list for the national post is Mayor Isko Moreno for president followed by aspirants for the senatorial candidates namely Herbert Bautista, Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada,Manuel Monsor del Rosario 3rd, and Raffy Tulfo.
For the congressional post the list include Richard Yap, Anjo Yllana, Richard Gomez, Arjo Atayde, Angelica Jones; and for party-list represetantives we have Karla Estrada, Nora Aunor, and Tom Rod Rodriguez running under the banner Anak Maharlikang Pilipino (AMP) Party-List.
Tom Rodriguez has listed his bosom friend-actor Billy James as nominee number two in the priority of said party-list.
Of all the Party-List aspirants, it is Billy James who is not as popular in the public eye as compared to say, Nora Aunor, Richard Gomez, or even Arjo Atayde, although in the inner circle of showbiz he is well-known even among some veteran members of the movie press.
This is confirmed by his press agent Dominic Rea, seasoned member of the Philippine Movie Press Club who recently gathered his press friends for an intimate merienda cena with Billy James. By the way, Dominic is also the press agent of Karla Estrada.
To the uninformed, Billy James hails from Dumaguete city, province of Negros Oriental, well-known among others, for the resonating names of Edith Tiempo, and director Eddie Romero, National Artist for Literature and Film, respectively.
Billy likes to call himself an indigene (gamely referencing the vanishing native Aetas of Negros), although his well-built assets, fair complexion, command of English betray it all as he is a dyed-in-the wool sports buff like Tom and has even modeled for Vicky Belo.
Billy’s biggest break in showbiz is through Coco Martin’s “Ang Probinsyano” where he played a swashbuckling role opposite Judy Ann Santos. He hopes to stage a comeback as he was not killed off in said series. (Coco Martin, are you listening?)
For his aspiration on hand as AMP’s second nominee, Billy is getting the support of showbiz friends from Dumaguete the likes of Beauty Gonzales, and Nadia Montenegro who he calls his long time “nanay-nanayan” (godmother) of showbiz when he was over a decade ago scraping the pot’s bottom; and as a struggling wannabe of showbiz together with Tom Rodriquez, from Samar, whom he shares affinity as a fellow Visayan.
Up from virtual anonymity, Billy and Tom since the onslaught of the pandemic were proactively involved in feeding programs and extending a helping hand to the frontliners sans fanfare.
This with some colleagues of showbiz who are now all-out to support AMP’s advocacy like Robin Padilla, Martin Escudero, April ‘Congrats’ Gustilo, Dennis Padilla, Arnell Ignacio, Wendell Ramos, Bela Padilla, Mocha Uson, Byron ‘Banat Bay’ Cristobal, Njel de Mesa, and fellow Cebuano singer-composer-actor Zyruz Imperial.
You might also add Dennis Trillo whose Chinese-Filipino parents are all from Dumaguete city.
Highly-endorsed by the party of Sen. Bong Go, AMP according to Billy and Tom will encourage productive collaborations with DOLE, POEA, and OWWA and to the Global Pinoy Construction Experts.
AMP represents the hundreds of thousands marginalized, under-utilized, okay “exploited,” construction workers throughout the country and yes, counting for more.
The party-list will also support the government in building sustainable communities and a strong institution for a brighter future for the Filipino people. As the cliche goes, “hopes spring eternal” for those whose heart and soul are for the underprivileged and exploited.
